Delhi 24

(Text and Photography by Pupps Roy)

Not very far I swear. Its 5 minutes from Nehru place, 20 minutes from Noida, an hour from Gurgaon and 30 minutes from the downtown CP. And it's surrounded by all party places, clubs, bars, temples, spa, clinics, gardens, nurseries and what not. Its your place if you choose to have a life here. You can walk down to GK1 and run to South ex. Even the best hospitals, nursing homes are just stone throw away. So don't worry, you are safe.

Either you own a house or live in PG or rent, it doesn't really matter. The in-thing is you're staying in Amar colony and it says all. This is the only place in Delhi where you will not be questioned by landlords if you choose to stay with your partner or in groups or all alone and at the same time you wont be paying rent through your nose like other upmarket areas in New Delhi. Its hip and hyped up so it has a strange great pull.

Everything is at your doorstep. Juicy Tibetan Momo stalls, cyber cafes, mobile phone stores, coffee shops, liquor shop, full fledged market, sabji walas and what not. You name it and you find it.

"Its like an eye candy each time I come to Amar colony for my tuitions" says Karan 24 year old student who comes to Amar colony for his IAS coaching classes and he comes somewhere from the north pole, Rohini. He thinks girls are highly fashionable and well dressed. He makes sure he surfs around the market at least one hour before or after his classes. Daily passersby Pratyush Chatterjee, married for 3 years entirely agrees.

"I come to work in East of kailash but I park my car in Amar colony" gladly says Anindita, who works in a travel agency in East of kailsh. Upon asking she replied that it's much convenient parking in Amar colony. She always comes to have her lunch and evening coffee in Amar colony. "Its so lively. It actually elevates the energy level to see all shiny happy people around" she reckons. It doesn't matter if you are with someone or just alone. Just chill.

Who hasn't heard about the famous Nagpalka Chole-bature? You can only find this in Amar colony. And the overlapping salwar suit shops across the market lane are famous not only in aamchi Delhi but all over the world. "It's more like a global urban middle class area" says Ted, he has been living in Amar colony since 11 years. You can find people from states all over India living here maintaining right harmony and in addition loads from Middle East, Russia and even from West. Not surprising, considering that they also face the same set of challenges and hardships. "It's not patronized by any particular community so its safest to live here" Says Mr Chug..

"Summers are cool here and I take a stroll with my friends in shorts till very late in the night without being stared or leered at" says Norbu 21 years old girl working in a BPO in Gurgaon. "I think people are used to all these and it's a coolest place to live in".

The blue eyed boy on his revving bike cribs "Amar colony becomes a nightmare after 11.30pm. All the entries are barricaded and chained and theres no exit. You have to take a very long way out to a single exit point. Its like Hotel California(Song), You can check in here anytime but you can never leave", he giggles.

The fake Prada wearing Madam flaps her wings and smirks "You stay in Amar Colony, I mean, Lajpat nagar? Really?" (as if it's a very tacky and down market place to live in). Who cares about any comments? I love this place man! I love Delhi. I love Amar Colony.

Ouuch Mah..squito!

One tight slap on thigh, one on cheek, another one on the right hand after 10 seconds. Killed two and one just flew away. But it’s going to make a comeback just like the other bunch with its huge entourage in sometime. Summer at its peak. Delhi is hot as hell and on top of that there is mosquito menace followed by its associated disease and symptoms. This year a lot more mosquitoes are swarming Delhi with their killer stings. The life span of a mosquito is 22 - 26 hrs. During time period a female may lay up to 150 eggs. So imagine the numbers they are multiplying. Government has no clue where they came from and day by day they are setting a strong foothold in the city. You are guaranteed to get bit starting from the Airport to the other side of Yamuna river. This mosquito infested city is now alert. Health Minister A K Walia, after a 2 hour long meeting, said the intermittent showers combined with rising temperature have created conditions conducive for breeding of mosquitoes which needs to be checked urgently. But are they actually checking it?

Delhi Government asked RWAs, private and public offices, hospitals, schools, police stations and market associations to take effective steps to stop breeding of mosquitoes which transmit dengue.

Forget about Dengue or Malaria or Chikangunia. Delhiites are getting a strange disease. This mosquito bites give pain in bone joints which stays for more than six months. So start covering up. To prevent itching apply Odomos. Pleasant evening breeze outside can be enjoyable but make sure you are protected. But Delhiites are smart. While partying in open space besides serving good food and drinks there’s always a tube of odomos lying somewhere for the scanty clothed ladies. Kaccchua Chaap coils are in every nook in the houses in this season. And there is at least one commercial of mosquito repellant out of ten in TV. The awareness and protection is there. So play it safe. Stay covered Delhi girls. Do you really need to attract even more eyes than you already would with your fair skin, big eyes and long rebonded hair?

Sleeping with Make Up(Don't make me up, I'm good)

I have many friends. Many girl friends who sleep with their make up not by choice but thats vastly situational. Its not that they like to do it becuase it doesnt sound really pretty to sleep with the make up on but it can look pretty sexy and takes you to a whole new dimesion. She often sleeps with her boyfriend after the party at his apartment with her make up on forgetfully or with her knowledge.

Just imagine a girl sleeping with her full make up on. It definitely increases the hot factor. If you are in your sexiest lingerie you are sure to look like a sexy pornstar. Big deal! Dont we love looking like one some point in life? I know a girl who feels like a pornstar everyday but sadly she is a teacher. What an irony! I also remember lot of girls were inspired to be a prostitute after watching Pretty Woman including me that barks. Her whole idea of Make up and dress up was quite interesting.

Just imagine a tousle-haired beauty with fake eyelashes with loud shiny lips sleeping next to you. If you are a girl she is an envy factor to you. Not only how she looks next morning except her fluffy face because of too many vodkas from last night but the flakes from her eyeshadow gathering at the corner of her eyes and the faint lipstick stain which is now almost a lipliner gives out a whole new definition of the morning face. Left over make up style is favourte of lot of designers. Faded make up, unset hairdo, almost gone lipstick reminds you of the sex Goddess you were last night. It makes you feel so happy and not crappy.

Come on tell me the truth, if you use makeup frequently, at one point or more, you have probably gone to sleep with it on. Whether you forgot the fact that you were wearing it or you were just too tired to bother removing it, it happens. And why not! Why do we spend so much of money buying those expensive make up? M.A.C. Extended Play, Maybelline XXL 24HR Bold, Dior Show waterproof Mascara, Bulletproof kajal, what are they for? Do they harm our skin if we wear it overnight? The answer is yes to certain extent. To avoid pimples or acne please remove your make up make up before you go to bed. Your skin can't breathe with make up layers. So there are some chance for acne and pimples. Just dont make it a daily habit. Sounds better.

Look at the picture below where Marilyn Monroe is having her morning milk breakfast lying in bed with her unremoved last night's make up. This was not a proposed shot or anything like that. Just after that she became a global star. So it has implications. Good, bad whatever we admit it. If you are confident and can carry on left over make up sometime and can have fun with it then nothing like that. You go girl!

The Walled CIty and I

(Text and Photography by Pupps Roy)

Old delhi is in my vein. No I am not from delhi and not even remotely from Old delhi from any angle but my heart belongs here. Every sunday I crave to go to Old Delhi or on some loony saturday evening to take a walk around the gullies of the walled city aimlessly to catch glimpse of the small children peeping out from the small window from top, how many times I walked past the Seeshganj Gurdwara to meet the fortune teller, Caught up in a miff with the locals for taking their photographs number of times, Also bought cheap gifts for my folks which are 10 times more expensive in south delhi. The food makes me hungry all the time and no I dont even get an inch after that due to this running errands from one corner to another. I travel 40km on Saturday and Sunday respectively for my hobby to get to the Old Delhi and my satiety level does not stop there. I bought a rare diary of 1928 for 100 rs from Darya Gunj Book Bazar and also found the latest British Vogue there. No I am not spilling secrets. I Walk around miles around there from one corner to the fag end of it. I visit a mosque, temple, church and a gurduwara in exactly 10 minutes. All in a same row. Epitomy of secularism prevails in Chandi Chawk. I eat biriyani, kheer and chew pan and dont become the victim of Delhi Belly and thats how I became an authentic Delhiwala. No wonder why thousands of tourists and foreigners are attracted to the mysitc alleys of the walled city. Its not becuase of the Red Fort or Jama Masjid. Its much more than that. I befriended snake charmer, Pakistani men, Kawali singers, foreigners and prostitutes. Its difficult to find all of them in one lot in any one part of Delhi. I even saw nervous travellers standing infront of the food stalls and getting wary of trying but immediately after 10 minutes they joined the club. Something is so irresistible in the whole thing. Its something beyond the crowded market and the exploring the bylane factor. You stop at the bustling crowd and lose yourself in its symbolic beauty and analyse so many things that only happen here. My wish gets fulfilled every time and I come back happily to the other side of Delhi. Its like a myriad of happiness I go for and it lingers in my head for many days. During my each visit I think of writing ten stories but I end up writing none or may be one. Because there is something you like to keep to yourself. I didn't fall in love with old delhi because someone praised about it. I fell in love with it on my 3rd or 4th Visit and it started from then. And its been a continuous journey till now unleashing the whispers of the walls and its environs.
